Class Description

I LOVE stories and storytelling. Storytelling is an innate human activity. Every culture has a culture of storytelling. It is how we preserve and pass on our heritage and culture. It is how we honor and remember our ancestors. It is one of the main ways we learn our native language.

SeedFolks is a multi-cultural, multi-generational story written specifically for English learners. We will explore the characters, their relationships, the community connections, emotions, gardening, and much more.

We will incorporate reading, writing, listening, & speaking via the actual book, many videos, an actual interview with the author, community plays and Seedfolks exercises.

Please do NOT read ahead! We will most likely spend 1-3 weeks on each chapter so that we can explore all facets of the richness of this engaging story!

Here’s a short video clip of the Children’s Theatre introducing Seedfolks:

Class Requirements

Students should have a basic understanding of English, i.e. this class is for high beginners and above. Everyone may participate as much or as little as wanted. If you’re a newer student and prefer to listen and read before practicing writing & speaking…that’s just fine. Take the leap!

Class Supplies

Here are all 13 chapters. Please do NOT read yet…we need to listen and learn first:

FAQ

I'm a total beginner, is this class appropriate for me?

All levels are welcome to attend, but if you are brand new, it would be best to just listen. Some students do well attending classes that are a bit above their level, others get frustrated. I always recommend one try things out and then decide.

What kind of material will we be studying?

Our main focus will be the book Seedfolks but we will supplement with many other media forms so that your experience will be multi-faced, fun and motivational.

Technology wise - what is the best set-up?

It is best practice to use headphones for the best audio quality. Hopefully your internet connection is strong so you can experience high quality video and audio as well.
Please remember to silence cell phones and find a tranquil, quiet location where you won’t be disturbed.
