What Kind Of Teacher Am I?

Whether you are a beginner or have lots of experience playing the guitar, I can help you achieve your goals! I teach all contemporary styles, including rock, blues, jazz, funk, and more. I am happy to teach whatever my students’ are interested in and help them learn chords, scales, improvisation, sight reading, and music theory. I have years of performance experience in the Portland area and beyond as a soloist as well as with various rock, jazz, and musical theater pit bands. For the past several years I have performed internationally in the cruise line industry, onboard Norwegian, Celebrity, Princess, and Holland America cruise ships, and earned my Masters of Music degree in jazz studies from Portland State University. In February 2019, my band Special Purpose released our debut recording Password.

I take music and guitar instruction seriously. I feel it is my responsibility to be patient with students, show that I care about their progress, communicate well, and serve as a role model by maintaining a performance career. I enjoy seeing my students make progress, develop a skill set and a feeling of accomplishment. I love it when my students tell me about playing in a band or going to a jam session. It shows me they are passionate about music and taking the initiative to go to the next level, from individual practice to playing with others.
