How to Write Sketch Comedy

Breaking down the essentials of writing a sketch comedy scene for the stage or television.
Week 1 – Premise & Scene Structure
Week 2 – Content & POV
Week 3 – Characters & Relationships
Week 4 – Jokes & Editing
Week 5 – Final Drafts
By the end of the five sessions, you will have written three sketches and picked a favorite to edit and have it pitch-ready. All scenes will be read aloud by the class participants.
Edna Mira Raia is a San Francisco based sketch comedian, clown, stand-up comic and producer with over a decade of experience writing and performing comedy. She founded, led and directed two sketch comedy troupes and successfully wrote for and produced a live sketch show for the stage for several consecutive years prior to the pandemic. Her solo dramedy, "Altars for my Alters" won Best of SF Fringe in 2018. Edna is a recent graduate of The Second City’s Conservatory program in Chicago.
Class Requirements
A background in theatre, film or comedy is helpful but not required.
